In order to provide the best possible care and services to patients and their families, a number of projects aimed at acquiring equipment and improving facilities have been developed within MUSCO. The goal is to allow patients to benefit from state-of-the-art research, care and rehabilitation equipment. Care and services better adapted to the needs of families will improve their experience and ensure a higher quality of treatment.

Progress Report
This component is divided into 3 projects:
1 – Modernize the orthopedic clinic
As part of the modernization of the facility’s premises, the project involved carrying out work to optimize the reception and service offerings within the orthopedic clinic. Various development costs were covered, allowing for the installation of new equipment such as the EOS 3D X-ray system and the financing of various furniture and equipment.
The work provided families with a more modern environment within the new clinic, which now welcomes nearly 22,000 patients each year.
2 – Supporting Lower Limb Biomechanical Assessment Activities
This project supported lower limb biomechanical assessment activities to provide better diagnostics for patients at CHU Sainte-Justine and CRME. Both facilities have cutting-edge investigative equipment, including new technologies such as knee angiography. A rehabilitation technologist was hired in 2023 to maximize the use of this equipment.
Actions were taken to secure additional research funding that will ensure the continued availability of the existing resource and the continued availability of patient services.
3 – Create an immersive environment
The project to create a multimodal, fun, and immersive environment at the CHUSJ Orthopedics Clinic was designed to help patients and their families prepare for surgery. The purchase of virtual reality equipment was designed to better prepare patients and their families for the upcoming procedure, allowing them to imagine themselves in different situations and with different teams during this stage of their care. The project was also integrated into a research project.
Going forward, the team will acquire additional units for the pre-admission clinic and the orthopedic outpatient clinic. New videos will be created on postoperative pain management, getting up for the first time, and safely leaving home.
