Dialogue with families is an essential element in directing care and services toward the real needs of patients. In order to encourage patients and their families to become more engaged in their care experience, several MUSCO projects aim to equip them with the tools they need in order to learn about the healthcare system and its stakeholders. In addition, when they wish, families can play an active role in their own care journey through specific projects led by the Initiative. The goal of this is to ensure that families have an integrative experience that provides them with tangible opportunities and the empowerment they need to get involved if they so choose.

The “foyer de collaboration” approach was originally designed to encourage and support the development of collaborative projects within the Technopôle. To this end, the exchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary thinking between patients and families, clinicians, researchers, community organizations, rehabilitation professionals and industry was to be encouraged. The aim was to enable the pooling of knowledge and expertise between the various stakeholders to improve the care and service offering. Since then, the project has focused on the development of clinical research projects, with a resource person coordinating the implementation of these projects.

A number of actions are planned to formalize and structure the mandate, including strategic planning. In addition, a dissemination plan will be undertaken to enhance the value of all actions undertaken. Teams will also be looking to forge closer ties with partner organizations to further encourage the sharing of expertise. Several social and technological innovation projects are currently underway, and will eventually be made available to young people and their families.
