Dialogue with families is an essential element in directing care and services toward the real needs of patients. In order to encourage patients and their families to become more engaged in their care experience, several MUSCO projects aim to equip them with the tools they need in order to learn about the healthcare system and its stakeholders. In addition, when they wish, families can play an active role in their own care journey through specific projects led by the Initiative. The goal of this is to ensure that families have an integrative experience that provides them with tangible opportunities and the empowerment they need to get involved if they so choose.

Progress Report
Initially, this project sought to support non-profit organizations in planning information and/or training sessions for families at Marie Enfant. This goal has since been refined to focus on strengthening ties between these organizations, healthcare professionals and families so they have a better understanding of, and familiarity with, one another.
Ultimately, this project seeks to enable families seen at Marie Enfant to make more systematic use of health network resources and benefit from more holistic care, and to allow healthcare professionals to be able to direct families to the appropriate community resources at crucial moments. The Initiative is supporting this project by covering the operating costs of the resource person in charge of the project.
A first showcase for community organizations has been put in place in the summer 2024 and the working group plans to organize a second edition of the showcase. In 2024–2025, they will come up with a plan with actions over the short, medium and long term to build lasting ties with community stakeholders. Including social participation as an integral component of a patient’s life and rehabilitation objectives will be front and centre of the thinking process for integrating community partners into the CRME care pathway.
